Fear is powerful.

It can hold us back, cover our confidence, and make it harder to feel the joy, strength and light that are already within us.

I know fear well. For much of my life, fear has had a very loud voice. And recently, I found myself looking at it a little differently.

What if fear isn’t only something we need to get rid of?

What if it can also show us where we have an opportunity to find our power?

When fear shows up, it can be easy to become consumed by what might happen, what could go wrong, or whether we’re capable of handling what’s in front of us.

But I’ve started asking myself different questions:

Where is my power in this?

Where is my stability?

Where is my foundation?

And ultimately:

What am I choosing?

That doesn’t mean the fear instantly disappears.

Some fears are connected to experiences we’ve carried for a very long time. Some situations are big. Finding our way through them may take a few minutes, a few days, or much longer.

But we can begin.

Each time we become aware that fear is taking over, we have another opportunity to come back to ourselves and make a choice that supports who we want to be.

Maybe that’s one of the things fear can show us.

Not that we’re powerless.

But that somewhere underneath the fear, our power is still there.

This week’s little bit of inspiration is about what I’ve been discovering when fear gets in the way.
