Have you ever stopped and really listened to the way you talk to yourself?

I had one of those moments this week while doing something completely ordinary—housework.

I was trying to get the dishes done and take care of things around the house when I noticed myself becoming more and more critical.

I’m not doing this right.
I’m not good enough.
I can’t even get this done.

Nothing significant had happened. Yet my mood was dropping quickly.

And then I stopped and thought, Why am I talking to myself this way?

When I Noticed What Was Happening

What surprised me wasn’t necessarily the thoughts themselves. It was seeing how quickly they were changing the way I felt.

The more I listened to that criticism, the heavier everything became. Even something as simple as doing the dishes started to feel difficult.

Once I became aware of it, though, I had a choice.

I didn’t have to keep following every thought my mind offered me.

I could notice what was happening and choose something different.

For me, that looked very simple.

Yes, I can do the dishes.
Yes, I can take out the trash.
Yes, I can do the next thing.

Nothing outside of me had changed.

What changed was my awareness.

Creating Space to Hear Yourself

Sometimes our thoughts can become so loud that it’s difficult to hear anything underneath them.

Self-criticism, fear, expectations, old beliefs, and all of the things we’ve picked up along the way can create a lot of noise.

This week reminded me that I don’t have to have all of that figured out before I can stop and notice what’s happening.

Sometimes awareness itself creates a little space.

And in that space, I can begin to hear myself again and choose what feels right for me from there.

So that’s what I’m leaving you with this week:

Have you noticed how your thoughts affect the way you feel?

And when you catch yourself being pulled down by your own thoughts, what helps you?

There isn’t one answer I’m looking for. I’m simply inviting you to notice.

If You’d Like a Little More Support

Sometimes becoming aware of something is enough to create a shift. And sometimes we realize there may be something deeper underneath it that we’re ready to work with.

If you’d like a safe place to rest and explore what may be ready to shift, I offer private intuitive and energy work sessions.

You don’t need to know what needs to change or have everything figured out before you come.

Come as you are. We’ll begin from there.
